Product Information
Serial #28825 - Serial number range for the 105th PA Vol. Infantry with #28826 being an identified gun to that unit. Barrel has a nice even brown patina with no rust or pitting. Frame has a matching look. Markings on frame are good with the serial number partially obscured. Barrel with fore stock removed shows the serial number correctly and complete. Walnut stock is in good condition but appears to have a varnish finish which could be removed if desired. Walnut fore stock is in excellent condition but appears to have been replaced with an original fore stock and center band with sling swivel. This work was probably done by Nelson Delany, Reading, PA a gunsmith in the 1860 census. His name and address are stamped on the barrel in front of the rear sight. This is probably a gun he acquired from a veteran from the 105th PA, worked on it and resold it. The Pennsylvania Kentucky Rifle by Henry J. Kauffman ~ "Delaney, Nelson; 8 North Fifth Street, Reading, PA. 1860. Nelson Delaney appears to have worked in Reading, PA, throughout most of the last half of the nineteenth century. He is listed as a gunsmith in a PA Business Directory of 1860 and two groups of his rifles were offered for sale in the 1885 catalogue of Jos. C. Grubb in Phila., PA."
