Large framed image measures 27 1/2" x 37". Bottom of easel monument reads "This picture of the Easel Monument bearing the army record of John C. Gimple was presented by him on March 15.96 to his wife Maggie S."
Gimple enlisted on 8/28/1862 as a Corporal and mustered into Co. I.  He was mustered out on 5/31/1865.
On the Easel Monument Gimple is listed as "slightly wounded " on May 16, 1864 at Laurel Hill, "by being struck on the head with musket by the enemy but still remained with Regt." . . .  and "Hatcher's Run, Oct. 27, '64, where he was again slightly wounded by rifle ball in right leg. Was sent to Field Hospital . . " "On Sept. 26 '64 was promoted to Color Corporal"
Census records indicate the John Gimple was originally from Funkstown, MD. He was born April 1839 ~ on March  17, 1869 he married Margaret Savilla Rhodenizer ~ they had 4 children, 3 daughters and 1 son.  John Gimple died on September 18, 1911 and is buried in Funkstown Public Cemetery, Funkstown, MD.

UCV Camp 204 Reunion Canteen Large CS-style tin drum canteen (approx. 8" diameter) with convex "ringed" faces and a screw-on spout (pat. date 1858). Linen sling stenciled "UCV Camp 204 Richmond, VA" (George Picket Post). Identical to reunion canteen pg. 174 Civil War Canteens, by Sylvia & O'Donnell. There is an outside chance that this specimen dates back to the Civil War. $1495.00
