M1859 Sharps Brass Mounted Carbine Serial #305xx ~ very early. Barrel and tang serial numbers match.
52 Caliber. Barrel shows no rust or pitting but there is virtually no finish left. All markings are sharp and clear. The barrel is void of the normal New Model marking and is 21 5/8" versus the normal 22" which is exactly correct for the first guns manufactured with Sharps utilizing barrels left over from the M1853. The breech and lock are in very good to fine condition with no finish left. Brass is all original with a mellow patina. The bore is fine. The walnut stock and fore stock are very good with a small repair at the bottom of the butt plate ~ to me it looks like a factory repair during manufacturing. Needless to say, Brass Mounted guns are in high demand and very hard to come by. This is a very nice example.
