M1850 Staff & Field ID to Col A.L.Anderson   M1850 Staff & Field ID to Col A.L.Anderson

ID to Col A.L. Anderson  8th California Infantry
Born Mar 18,1837 in Dayton Ohio

Col Anderson was  a graduate of the USMA in 1854 and stayed in the reg Army with regular promotions becoming a Col. on March 10,1865. What is unusual about this presentation is that it reads "Presented to Col A.S. Anderson by the officers of his regiment, March 10,1865." This is the same day he assumes command of the regt. Verified in the records that go with the sword. Also his signature on wartime correspondence looks exactly like A.S. Anderson. There are no other officers even close to his name. There is no doubt that this was an error on the part of the officers of his new regt. as they probably used early March correspondence before he arrived at his new command. He retired in Jan 7,1867 as a Brig. General
This sword is untouched in condition and bought from a man whose father got the sword years ago when they lived in Ohio. This sword has never been offered on the market .

The condition is uncleaned  and complete.
